Best Sudoku Apps for iPhone in 2025: A Comprehensive Guide

The Best Sudoku Apps for iPhone in 2025

Sudoku puzzles have been popular since the 19th century and there are many hundreds of sudoku apps vying for your attention on the App Store. This blog post tries its best to look at some of the most popular ones and break them down to help you find the one for you.

The Criteria

💰 monetization: how much does the app cost and what kind of monetization does it have
🧠 solving experience: how enjoyable is it to solve a puzzle
🎨 design: how intuitive and enjoyable is the user interface
🔧 features: how much can you tailor the app to your taste

There are a LOT of sudoku apps on the App Store and I can’t possibly cover them all. Instead, I’ve chosen some of the most popular apps that feature prominently in the App Store and which are highly recommended to me.

If your app appears here and you disagree with my thoughts, feel free to reach out to me: sudoku [at] notevil.app and I’ll be happy to remove it.

To save you some scrolling, I’ve left the results of my analysis at the top and the details below.

The Best Apps

If you just want to play a game of sudoku, you can’t go wrong with any of the five. This is the blog for Not Evil Sudoku, but it may not be the right app for you.

The app that works best for you depends on your thoughts on Cost versus Design. If you only plan on playing a puzzle a day or you value a well-designed app then Not Evil Sudoku might be a good fit for you. Here’s a breakdown:

Cost-Focus: If you don't want to pay a dollar and you don't mind seeing ads then Sudoku.com is all you need.

Design-Focus: If you're looking for an app that feels like what a sudoku app designed by Apple would feel like, Not Evil Sudoku is probably the best fit. If you're looking for a more opinionated design, Good Sudoku is probably a good fit.

If you’re already a subscriber to the NYT Games app and not looking for a lot of customization, NYT Games Sudoku is worth trying out.

NYT Subscriber: Basic but probably good enough. For example something I really need is the ability to lock numbers so that I can place them in several cells at once which this app doesn't have.

And lastly, since it feels mean to single out ▻Sudoku, if you really like wooden themes in your apps then I suppose you should go check it out.

▻Sudoku: For those who were beavers in a past life 🪵 🦫
